For the first two weeks of April, we’ve had Jesse Johnson, a massage student from Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy, working with us for an internship as part of her college’s education program. Though it took up a bit more of our time than originally anticipated (due to the constant supervision & mentoring involved), this internship experience was very informative (for both her & us!), productive, and fun!
The internship requirements were that Jesse do 62 hours of in clinic work over the two week period, with at least 38 of those being treatment time. Elizabeth Belfry was her supervising therapist and mentor through this process so was even busier than normal providing guidance & feedback for Jesse, as well as sharing her knowledge, skills & expertise as a practicing RMT and a business/clinic owner.
For her treatment hours, Jesse did some tandem massages with Elizabeth, or simply observed her work, and provided some massages to clients herself (under Elizabeth’s supervision). For the remainder of her clinic hours, Jesse provided reception coverage and helped with other clinic administration tasks. We’ve very much enjoyed having her here to help out with office tasks (& laundry!!) as well as to provide extra massage to our clients.
Jesse will be done her massage therapy program in August and plans to write her massage therapy board exams in September, so will hopefully be a RMT as of this fall. It looks as though she will not be moving to Victoria though so we unfortunately won’t get to have her return…. We of course wish her well in her future adventures and are confident that she will be a great RMT!
Thanks for all your help Jesse & thank you to all of our clients who let Jesse work with you!
